  • This is a great starting place in your scholarship search. It includes scholarships based on citizenship status, degree areas, and first-generation college students in addition to lots of information about the application process, like how to write an application essay and mistakes to avoid.

UNIDOS Scholarship (Beca UNIDOS)

  • For high school seniors
  • UNIDOS is an organization that connects the Hispanic/Latino communities among NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Duke University. The purpose of this scholarship is to support and promote the Hispanic/Latino community, specifically by helping those with financial need to attend college. The requirements to apply are that the student must live in North Carolina, must be of Hispanic heritage (does not have to be 100%), and must be entering their first year of college in the upcoming fall.

  • UNIDOS es una organización que conecta las comunidades hispanas/latinas del estado de Carolina del Norte, UNC-Chapel Hill, y la Universidad Duke. El objetivo de estas becas es para apoyar y promover la comunidad hispana/latina, específicamente para ayudar estudiantes con necesidades financieras a asistir a la universidad.  Los requisitos para aplicar son que el estudiante vive en Carolina del Norte, es de herencia hispana (no necesariamente 100% hispano) y está entrando en su primer semestre de universidad este otoño.

The Tomorrow Fund for Hispanic Students (El Fondo de Mañana para estudiantes hispanos)

  • Applicants must:
    • Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, be from a low-income background, and be self-identified as a Hispanic/Latino immigrant or first-generation U.S. citizen
    • Attended (for at least two years) and graduated from a North Carolina high school
    • Admitted to a North Carolina accredited college, university, or community college, preferably enrolled full time
    • First generation in his/her family to attend college in the United States
  • El solicitante debe:
    • Mantener un promedio (GPA) mínimo de 2.5, ser de orígen de bajos ingresos, y ser autoidentificado como un inmigrante hispano/latino o un ciudadano de EEUU de primera generación
    • Haber asistido (por 2 años o más) y graduado de una escuela secundaria en Carolina del Norte
    • Haber sido admitido a una universidad acreditada (universidad o centro de estudios superiores/colegio comunitario) en Carolina del Norte, preferiblemente inscrito por tiempo completo

The Hispanic League Scholarship Program

  • The Hispanic League, in keeping with their mission to improve the quality of life for Hispanics/Latinos through promoting community inclusion, education, health, and multicultural understanding, has established this program to provide scholarships for deserving students.

HENAAC Scholars Program (Programa de Becados HENAAC)

  • The Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation (HENAAC) Scholars Program addresses the immense need that the United States has to produce more domestic engineers and scientists. The goal of the program is to ensure STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) college retention with a 3.0 grade point average or higher; to guarantee college graduation with an undergraduate technical degree in four-five years; and, to contribute to Hispanic communities by producing STEM role models for future generations and securing the country's place as the finest technological leader in the world.
  • HENAAC scholarship recipients continue to pave the way for future generations of Hispanics and lead by example to empower our communities and enhance our nation’s professional technical workforce.
  • The application deadline every year is April 30.
  • El Programa de Becados de la Corporación de Premios Nacionales para Logro de Ingenieros Hispanos (HENAAC en inglés) aborda la necesidad inmensa que el EEUU produzca más ingenieros y científicos domésticos. La meta del programa es asegurar retención en programas universitarios de Ciencia, Tecnologia, Ingenieria, Matematica (STEM en inglés) con un promedio (GPA) de 3.0 o más; para garantizar graduación de la universidad con un diploma técnico universitario en cuatro o cinco años; y para contribuir a comunidades hispanas por producir ejemplos en STEM para generaciones de hispanos en el futuro y asegurando el lugar de este país como el mejor líder tecnológico en el mundo.
  • La fecha límite cada año es el 30 de abril.

The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund (El Fondo Universitario para Hispanos en Carolina del Norte)

  • The North Carolina Society of Hispanic Professionals established this charitable fund at Triangle Community Foundation to benefit Hispanic students in North Carolina.  The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund awards annual scholarships worth between $500 and $2,500.  Scholarships recipients are recent graduates of North Carolina high schools who are of Hispanic/Latino background.  Recipients of a NC Hispanic College Fund scholarship must enroll in a degree program at a community college or a 2 or 4-year college/university and be committed to public service and community development.
  • La Sociedad de Profesionales Hispanos de Carolina del Norte estableció este fondo caritativo en Fundación de la Comunidad Triángulo para beneficiar a los estudiantes hispanos en Carolina del Norte. El Fondo Universitario para Hispanos en Carolina del Norte da becas anuales que valen entre $500 y $2.500. Recipientes de becas son graduados nuevos de institutos en Carolina del Norte y son de orígen hispano o latino. Recipientes de una beca de este fondo tienen que inscribirse en un programa de título en un colegio comunitario o una universidad de 2 o 4 años y ser comprometido a servicio público y desarrollo de la comunidad.

Scholarships for All Students (Becas para todos los estudiantes)

Horatio Alger Association

  • Scholarships for High School Seniors and High School Graduates
  • Since 1984, Horatio Alger Association Members and Friends have been funding need-based college scholarships to support deserving young people to overcome their adversity and pursue their dreams through higher education. So far the Association has awarded more than $110 million to approximately 20,000 students.

The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina

  • The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina offers scholarships that are open to North Carolina residents who are public high school seniors, who attend the NC School of Science and Mathematics or the UNC School of the Arts High School or who study in a home school registered with the North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education.

North Carolina Community Foundation

  • The North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) awards hundreds of scholarships each year, thanks to many generous fundholders from across the state. They currently administer nearly 150 scholarship funds for individuals, families, school systems and organizations in the counties they serve throughout North Carolina.
  • The NCCF scholarship application cycle begins each year in February. Deadlines vary from mid-February to early June.

Asheville City Schools Foundation

  • The Asheville City Schools Foundation provides over $180,000 in new and renewing scholarships each year to help Asheville City Schools students continue to excel after graduation.

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (AB Tech)

  • Here you can find a wide variety of outside scholarship opportunities, both across the state and nationally, for high school students.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship (La Beca de Jack Kent Cooke Fundación de Transferencia Pregrado)

  • This scholarship opportunity is open to undocumented community college students who will be transferring to a 4-year university.  Each award provides up to $40,000/year to cover the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees – for the final two to three years necessary to achieve a bachelor’s degree.
  • Esta oportunidad de beca está abierta a los estudiantes indocumentados de las universidades de comunidad quienes van a transferir a una universidad de 4 años. Cada premio ofrece hasta $40.000 cada año para tapar los gastos educativos de los estudiantes- incluye la matrícula, los gastos de mantenimiento y tasas requeridas, y los libros- para los dos o tres años finales necesarios para lograr la licenciatura.

Scholarships for Undocumented Students (Becas para estudiantes indocumentados)

High School Merit Scholarship AB Tech (Beca de mérito de la escuela secundaria) - $1,000

  • For first-year students
  • Students must:
    • Maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA
    • Be enrolled full-time (12+ hours) each semester
    • Have a 100% completion rate in all classes
    • Preference given to students with active community service participation
  • Para estudiantes en su primer año de la universidad
  • Estudiantes deben:
    • Mantener un promedio de notas (GPA) de 3.0
    • Estar inscrito de tiempo completo (12+ horas) cada semestre
    • Terminar 100% todas las clases

National Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship (La Beca Nacional de Estudiante Profesional de Salud Hispana)

  • This $2,000 to $5,000 scholarship opportunity is open to students who are committed to careers in health care and enrolled full-time in dental, medical, nursing, pharmacy, public health, and policy schools.
  • Esta oportunidad de beca de $2.000 a $5.000 está abierta a los estudiantes quien ha cometido a las carreras de atención médica y están matriculados a tiempo completo en los estudios de dental, de medicina, de enfermería, de farmacia, de salud pública, y de las escuelas de póliza.  

Golden Door Scholars

  • Golden Door Scholars provides scholarships for DACA students and scholarships for undocumented students. Students may be high school seniors or recent graduates.
  • Preference will be given to high school graduates from states that require undocumented students to pay out-of-state tuition.

 

Asheville Latin Americans Achieving Success WNC College Scholarship:

For undocumented or DACA-recipient Latinx students pursuing higher education at a Western North Carolina college or university. Applicants either do not qualify for in-state tuition or are attending a private college or university (that does not use in-state/out-of-state tuition rates).

Students at the undergraduate and graduate level are eligible to apply

Application Due Date: July 1st, 2018

Scholarship Amount: $600 for the Fall Term
