The Office of Pre-College Outreach is proud to serve students in the Asheville area through the ¡Vamos! Para un futuro mejor Program at UNC Asheville. The mission of ¡Vamos! is to promote student success and access to higher education. We work to bring Latinx youth, their families, and the community together to foster Latinx students’ success in school and pursuit of higher education.

¡Vamos! (pronounced “vah-mos”) which means “Let’s go!” in Spanish, is a free Pre-College Outreach program for Latinx high school students in the Asheville City and Buncombe County school systems. Our mission is to provide support for Latinx youth to graduate high school and achieve their goals of higher education.

The ¡Vamos! Program aims to provide students and their families with the resources, knowledge, and skills to support them in their education. This includes, but is not limited to, weekly tutoring sessions, monthly family engagement nights, college tours, and open communication with school teachers and staff. We also provide one-on-one guidance and support to students who are struggling academically, as well as those who are going through the college application process.

This program consists of high school students in 9-12th grade at Clyde A. Erwin High School and Asheville High School/SILSA. Our hope is that once accepted into the ¡Vamos! program as a freshman, these students will continue to be a part of the program throughout their high school career.

We are proud to work with many community partners whose missions, like ours, reflect a commitment to serve the unique needs of Latinx youth and their families:
