GEAR UP Summer Enrichment Program

Offered every summer in June, UNC Asheville’s GEAR UP Summer Enrichment program gives middle school students the opportunity to experience college life early. Students stay overnight in the residence halls and spend two days participating in leadership-building activities, academic programs (concentrated in the STEM fields), meeting with counselors from Admissions and Financial Aid, stargazing at Lookout Observatory, eating in the University Dining Hall, and more.

“We are pleased to offer this enrichment program as part of our effort to boost educational achievement across the region,” said UNC Asheville Provost Joseph Urgo. “GEAR UP allows us to expand our engagement with young people throughout Western North Carolina and allows them the opportunity to envision themselves as college students, either at UNC Asheville or elsewhere. Our shared goal is to make a college education an immovable aspect of their future.”

This program, part of GEAR UP at UNC Asheville, is open to students from Alleghany, Ashe, Burke, Clay, Graham, Madison, Rutherford, Swain, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey counties.  Dates for the 2017 Summer Enrichment Camps are:  June 12-16, June 15-16 and June 19-20.
