Alessandra is joining the Office of Pre-College Outreach this year as the Program Coordinator for the newly redesigned High School Latinx Program, ¡Vamos! (formally known as Juntos), which aims to support Latinx students achieve high school graduation and pursue degrees in higher education.
Alessandra is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies and Romance Languages and a minor in Social and Economic Justice. While at UNC-Chapel Hill, she taught piano lessons with Musical Empowerment, an organization that provides underserved children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area with the opportunity for a musical education. Alessandra also tutored ESL students at a local elementary school in English reading comprehension and volunteered with Eco-Action, a club at Carrboro High School that empowers students through a community garden. As a junior, Alessandra participated in a year-long study abroad program in Quito, Ecuador, where she had the opportunity to take classes at a local university, live with a host family, and travel around the country.
As a native of Western North Carolina herself, Alessandra is passionate about placing higher education within the reach of every student, regardless of race, ethnicity, class or gender orientation. She enjoys steaming cups of tea, long runs, and anything to do with Harry Potter.
