Celebrate Middle School Success

UNC Asheville "Celebrates Middle School Success" Through the Arts

The University of North Carolina at Asheville is proud to celebrate youth for their artistic expression through artifacts, paintings, sculptures, chalk drawings and other art forms.  Each year, for the month of July, works of art from area middle school students are showcased in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith Art & Intercultural Gallery, culminating in an Open House event hosted by the Chancellor. Celebrating Middle School Success is one of many ways UNC Asheville recognizes the immeasurable talent of aspiring college students who have participated in the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County’s Middle School Success Initiative (MSS). MSS works to create success ready 9th graders and espouses community responsibility and awareness to increase student success and high school graduation.

UNC Asheville recognizes that middle school is a pivotal and critical moment for students setting the stage for the sometimes overwhelming and daunting transition to high school.   We want students firmly planted on the road to college success and are committed to working alongside educators and parents to make this happen. As the only public four-year liberal arts university in the area, UNC Asheville has a unique responsibility and opportunity to pave the way for students in the region to attend a prestigious university close to home. UNC Asheville’s strategic plan identifies “seek[ing] and serv[ing] North Carolina’s most promising students, regardless of need, and facilitat[ing] their path to graduation” as a strategic priority.
